SportCoins, Inc. was formed during the summer of 2003 and its current partners include Larry Camp, Gregg Yetter, and Ed Rensi. The concept of creating a collectable coin for NASCAR and other sports is derived from the "challenge" coins or commanders coins of the military. Commanding Generals, Commanding Officers, Sergeants Major, commands, etc., each have their own individual coin, which they exchange with each other. The creation, history and exchange of these coins are a widespread phenomenon within the military. This collectable "challenge" coin culture is being introduced within the NASCAR ranks and has been received with an excited response. Racing fans will be now be able to carry with them a coin of their favorite driver which to show to others and show off their allegiance.
In addition to the core business of creating coins for drivers, teams, crew and corporate sponsors, a SportCoins Collectors Club has been created to avail fans limited edition commemorative coins for specific events (i.e., Daytona 500 Victory coins, Championship coins, etc.) as well as collectible, higher quality versions of the coins that are available for purchase at trackside. When a consumer purchases a SportCoins product, he/she will be assured that they are purchasing a unique and valuable piece of motorsports memorabilia.
